Ed Farrell is the Owner and Managing Partner of Silver Star Protection Group. He is responsible for day-to-day leadership and general management of the company as well as assisting clients implement highly effective security solutions.
Prior to Silver Star Protection Group, Ed was a member of the United States Marshal’s Service for 23 years retiring as a Supervisory Inspector where he managed operations on a Task Force that covered three states. Ed brings extensive knowledge of safety, security and regulatory compliance. Ed managed numerous high profile and complex fugitive investigations that spanned multiple jurisdictions, states and counties. Ed’s career includes experience protecting Supreme Court Justices, the Drug Czar and members of the judiciary who were under credible threats. Ed was a member of the U.S. Marshals Service’s national SWAT team known as Special Operations Group (SOG) for 8 years where he was regularly deployed across the US to respond to national emergencies. For ten years, Ed managed a state-of-the-art Regional Training Center that provided more than 150 unique trainings to over 1500 students annually. Ed designed the training facility and curriculum and managed a cadre of instructors. Ed oversaw the design and construction of multiple government facilities including creating comprehensive safety and security plans. Ed oversaw multiple regulatory and compliance audits and assessments ensuring his organization was compliant with DOJ policies and procedures. Ed maintains Top-Secret SCI clearance. Ed received his BA from Loras College in 1991.
Silver Star Protection Group has operated in the cannabis industry since 2014. Ed has authored several high-scoring security plans that enabled clients to win licenses for cultivation and dispensary facilities in multiple states. Ed continues to assist these organizations with design and construction of the security components and implementing industry best practices in security operations. SSPG provides regulatory compliance assessments, security officers, cash and cannabis transport services in multiple states.
Jim Sherlock Director of Operations
Jim has 32 years of law enforcement experience and brings extensive knowledge in safety, security and regulatory compliance. Jim served 30 years as a police officer in Chicago and retired as a detective in the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force – Complex Homicide Group. As a detective in the Task Force, Jim investigated high profile unsolved homicides, bank robberies, kidnappings, and assisted local law enforcement with ongoing active shooters and police shootings. While a member of the FBI Task Force Jim possessed top secret clearance.
Prior to the FBI Task Force, Jim was assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Apprehension Task Force. Jim was responsible for conducting long term surveillance for the purpose of capturing most wanted fugitives in a three state area. Jim also participated in multi-jurisdictional exercises in preparation for terrorist, biological, or chemical incidents.
Before serving in the FBI and U.S. Marshal's Task Forces, Jim held many positions within the Chicago Police Department. Jim began his career as a patrol officer in Chicago’s Englewood community. Jim then advanced to the Special Operation Group (SOG), an aggressive street level crime fighting unit. SOG’s duties included directed patrol in high crime neighborhoods, identify violent street gang members and to develop relationships with community activists and other local leaders. Jim then moved to an undercover unit working Chicago’s complex mass transit system, which focused on the prevention of crimes against persons. Jim was promoted to homicide detective assigned to Chicago’s south side. Jim conducted violent crimes investigations related to homicides, police involved shootings, criminal sexual assaults, armed robberies, kidnappings and domestic violence. Jim prepared detailed reports memorializing the investigations and provided testimony in criminal prosecutions.
As a police officer, Jim also held the position of Director of Security for an internationally recognized television personality. Jim was responsible for the executive protection and facility security for the principle, his family and the entire crew and cast of the show. Jim was in charge of coordinating with domestic and international law enforcement during times of travel.
Jim worked for Major League Baseball in two separate departments in succession. Jim worked as a Resident Security Agent or “RSA”. Jim’s duties included observing the game and reporting any exceptions directly to the Commissioner’s office. Exceptions included, but not limited to, how ballpark security handles situations related to fan behavior and player behavior in and out of the clubhouse. Jim was employed as a supervisor for Major League Baseball in the Authentication department. Jim supervised off-duty law enforcement officers, working as independent contractors, authenticate game used items and autographs. The program was designed to distinguish officially authenticated memorabilia from other items on the market and the goal was to guarantee authenticity.
Jim received his BA in Criminology from Purdue University in 1986.
Matt Victoriano Managing Director
Matt Victoriano is Managing Director of SSPG. He has years of experience providing security plans, risk assessments, compliance consulting, and security management to cannabis businesses. Prior to joining SSPG, he received years of training with special operations and served as a Marine Scout/Sniper. He has also provided national security consulting to local and national politicians and businesses.
Matt has a B.A. in political science, international relations, and Latin American studies from the University of Arkansas.
Dan Farrell Managing Partner
Daniel Farrell is the Managing Partner of Silver Star Protection Group and is responsible day-to-day leadership and general management of the company as well as designing and implementing business policies that promote the company’s culture and vision.
Dan began his career in the cannabis industry in 2014. Dan was a core member of the team that developed and executed a strategic plan to secure cultivation licenses in Illinois as well as raising the capital for the “A” share round of investment. When the state of Illinois announced the results of the application process, the group was awarded 2 cultivation licenses.
Dan brings an extensive knowledge of the financial services and banking industry. Prior to Silver Star Protection Group, Dan was a Managing Director at a Multi Strategy Hedge Fund responsible for the coordination of all marketing efforts, which included business development, investor relations and external communications for the firm. He was responsible for generation over $500 Million in assets for the firm from high net worth individuals, family offices, fund of funds, and university endowments. He was also responsible for the daily operational management of the firm including compliance, HR, vendor management and development and implementation of company goals.
Dan also worked in the mortgage industry at Decision One Mortgage, a division of HSBC, as well as a strategic account executive at Experian Information Solutions where he managed and maintained a strategic partnership with a top tier bank. Dan began his career as a program manager of a diagnostic home for abused and neglected children at Maryville Academy, the largest child/adolescent care organization in Illinois.
Dan received a BA in Psychology from Loras College, Iowa in 1993.
