James Smith is a former U.S. Marshal whose law enforcement career followed a path from a Corrections Officer at Chicago’s Cook County jail to providing security for Justices of the United States Supreme Court and officials at the Department of Justice. Mr. Smith now brings those years of risk assessment to Silver Star Protection Group as a managing member.
In his 26 years with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Jim served in many areas of increasing responsibility. In the last ten years of his career at the Marshal Service, Jim held the position of Senior Inspector with Judicial Security Division where his primary responsibilities included the protection of the Federal Judiciary, which included members of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Deputy Attorney General, members of the U.S. Court of Appeals and U.S. District Court Judges. Jim is a subject matter expert in the field of security assessments for Federal and State Court Judiciaries.
Jim was a member of the Marshals Service Special Operations Group, a highly trained tactical team that responds to national emergencies. During his career Jim coordinated and supervised more than 200 protection missions, which ranged from protection of every living U.S. Supreme Court Justice to providing protective operations for several members of the Department of Justice and Federal Judiciary.
In his spare time Jim volunteers with organizations such as Misericordia Heart of Mercy and the Beverly Area Planning Association, for which he chairs the neighborhood safety committee.
Jim Smith received a BA in Criminal Justice from St. Xavier University, Chicago, IL in 1986.
